Man Burns to Death in Missouri Pacific Freight Wreck
A Missouri Pacific freight train wreck five miles east of Wynne Arkansas left one man dead and many feared dead. Arch Anderson of Searcy Arkansas was found burned beneath a charred freight car amid burning crude oil and gasoline cars. The crash was blamed on a defective rail and rescuers could not reach the victims as flames raged for hours. Train crews struggled to move cars but were blocked by the heat and wreckage. The engine remained on the rails and none of the trainmen were injured.

Robbers Routed by Gas at Sartor and Sons Store
Robbers tried to break into Sartor and Sons at Alto by prying the window, smashing glass, and opening a safe. A vial of gas in the safe door was crushed, forcing the robbers to abandon the attempt.
