A court case accuses The Right 10 of penalizing road authorities for refusing to accept interstate shipment of goods. The dispute centers on enforcement actions and liability for transportation delays and costs.
Two North Carolina cases argued before the U S Supreme Court challenge a 1905 state law penalizing railroads for delaying or refusing shipments in interstate commerce. Reid & Bowen and Mrs D L Reid sued Southern Railway for penalties and damages after delays in shipping shingles and household goods to Tennessee and West Virginia.
Monroe Council No. 1337 Knights of Columbus held a meeting to elect officers for the coming year. New officers include Grand Knight Thomas H. McMillan and Deputy Grand Knight Charles P. Hartley, with nineteen new members boosting total to ninety. An out of town visitor from New Orleans, State Warden Mr. O'Donnell, spoke to the council.
Washington December 6 John D Rockefeller and Rev Fred D Gates invited by Chairman Stanley of the House Steel Trust Investigating committee to appear next Monday to answer charges by the Merritt brothers of Minnesota about the 20 million Mesaba ore properties in Minnesota.

San Antonio December 6 reports are conflicting on whether General Bernardo Reyes has left U S territory. His residence says he remains confined to his room by illness while other reports claim he crossed into Mexico at Tamau pilas.
Report claims possible walkout by engineers firemen conductors and brakemen on Queen and Crescent and connecting lines. Shreveport officials deny knowledge while unions report a near unanimous vote to strike unless wage and recognition demands are met. Negotiations in New Orleans have yielded no result.
The American Federation of Labor Ways and Means Committee met at Samuel Gompers’ office to review all aspects of the McNamara case. Secretary Morrison indicated little remains of the $190,000 defense fund contributed through the Federation.

George Alexander, Good Government candidate for mayor, defeated Job Harriman, the Socialist, by about seventeen thousand votes in yesterday's election in Los Angeles. Alexander was re-elected as mayor in the municipal race.
C. L. East announces Monroe will join a new South Central League with Mr. Fast owning the Monroe franchise. Dr. D. M. Shively is slated to head the organization, and East plans exhibition games with major league teams while seeking park access and public support.
In New York a coalition of United States senators representatives diplomats educators and prominent figures forms to urge nationwide agitation for abrogation of the 1882 treaty with Russia over passport discrimination against Jews. The Carnegie Hall meeting led by Andrew D White kicks off a series of mass gatherings with supporters including Andrew Carnegie Sherman Wilson Hearst Penrose O Gorman Parkhurst and Bishop Greer.
The 1913 budget request to Congress includes 450,000 for continuing improvements of the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River and 107,000 for the Ouachita River in Louisiana and Arkansas. The seventh annual Ouachita Poultry Association show begins tomorrow afternoon at the Mason ic Hall on Walnut Street with over 300 birds present and expected to reach about 1000 by 2 PM. Chickens from Monroe, West Monroe, and other regions, including out-of-state entries, will be on display through Sunday with 10 cent admission to help cover expenses.

The Supreme Court ruled that a life insurance policy may be assigned to a person without interest or to a creditor even if not contemplated at the time of procurement. The case involved a $10,000 policy on John C. Burchard of Tennessee, assigned to Dr. A H Grigsby before his death, reversing a lower Middle Tennessee circuit court decision that the assignment was void.
