Regents adopt a resolution allowing Georgia Tech to play Pittsburgh in the Sugar Bowl on Jan 2. The board affirms Georgia contests stay within state law while outside matchups follow the host state’s rules.
A 70-year-old plantation house on the Ross plantation seven miles south of Monroe in Buckhorn Bend burned Sunday night. No one was home. the house was insured and destroyed before firefighters arrived after the 7 26 p.m. alarm.
Police seized two ex convicts Victor Nevils aged 31 and Leonard Hill aged 35 and held two more men after solving two safe robberies totaling 2350 dollars in loot. Part of the cash 500 dollars cigarets worth 278 and 16 fifths of whisky were recovered. Burglars robbed the Brunswick Cafe and Bar and the Baton Rouge Frozen Foods Market.

The Mississippi State Supreme Court affirmed Raymond Cook's life sentence for the 1954 Pastime Grills slaying in Jackson. Cook claimed self defense after a dice game dispute over gambling proceeds led to Felts' death. the court upheld the jury verdict and described the evidence as clearly correct.
In Montgomery Alabama Rosa Parks a seamstress was fined $10 and costs for violating a city racial segregation ordinance on buses. She appealed to Circuit Court. Bond signed by Fred Gray and E D Nixon. Parks was jailed last Thursday after leaving a white section. Negroes boycotted buses. city lines manager said 75 to 80 percent joined. Police monitored tensions with no trouble reported morning.
West Monroe city council meets at 7 p m tonight in city hall. Mayor J Allen Norris says agenda is routine with potential bids on equipment. He notes about mid February as the likely date to sell around 400 000 dollars in bonds approved in the recent election.
About 400 persons are expected at the Ouachita Valley Council Boy Scouts of America annual recognition banquet at 7 p m at Hotel Frances roof. Don Ewing will give the principal address as Ben Parnell presides. Awards include Silver Beaver honors and 195 council officers will be installed.

In Longview Texas authorities hunt Dr Frank Samburg for kidnapping his four year old stepdaughter Mary Jean Mance and son Philip Sainburg II after he warned Neal Smith he would never see Mary Jean alive again if charges were not dropped. Samburg reportedly fled from Big Spring with the children. He is linked to the November 14 kidnapping of Philip from Ithaca New York and faces related custody and contempt charges.
Members of Petoskey First Presbyterian and First Methodist held joint services in the Methodist building while a new pipe organ was installed in the Presbyterian Church. Ministers from both churches took turns conducting.

A mother of three notes funds are scarce behind Charity hospital. A 14 year old describes a two sibling with a single mother working two days a week and asks for clothes and food.
Louisiana Governor Robert Kennon says he favors segregation but will take no action over the Sugar Bowl protest. Pittsburgh reserve fullback Bobby Grier is expected to play in the January 2 game against Georgia Tech. Kennon states the case is up to Sugar Bowl authorities and city officials.
The AFL and CIO convened their first merged AFL CIO convention in New York at the 71st Regiment Armory. George Meany and Walter Reuther reopened proceedings with a large ceremonial gavel as leaders unite a 16 million member federation.
Wisner. Dec. 5. Rumor says an oil well brought in Saturday by Shell Oil Co. during a closed test on Friday. No official confirmation or Shell statement available from Lake Charles offices.
