Detroit December reports Henry Ford, 69, after surgery recovery, says he will continue directing his empire. He plans new auto innovations and uses soy bean oil to make paint. Ford envisions cheaper outputs, a stronger 1933 economy, and urges immediate action for national progress. He also comments on liquor prospects with a pointed joke.
Washington December 2 The government closed five months of the 1933 fiscal year with a deficit of 751 million and a gross public debt of about 20.806 billion dollars. Debt has grown by over 3 billion since late 1931.
Governor O K Allen signed a ninety day reprieve for Thomas E Willis convicted in Shreveport city court of a motor vehicle traffic violation. The action delays execution or further penalties, pending review or clemency consideration.

Thelma Kidwell, 27, a manicurist, was killed when the car she rode with Richard Carter, 28, left the road and struck a telephone pole. Carter was injured but not seriously. A policeman died of a heart attack at the hospital where he had come to help the victims.
W R Boss Weatherford 35 was hanged at Purvis after a last letter from his sweetheart Beulah White Greenville and a sheriff read the death warrant. Clergymen offered prayers as the crowd watched the legal execution. Weatherford died of a broken neck. Funeral held today. his family refused body claim.
A southern two day regional conference of the American Political Science Association began in Baton Rouge with lectures by Dr. Howard Odum of the University of North Carolina and Dr. William Ogburn of the University of Chicago. Odum urged social sciences to aid peace time reconstruction and noted the South’s resources. Ogburn spoke on social trends in America predicting a brighter economic future for the United States.
Murry B. Nicolson, 36, a salesman from Oklahoma City and former Selma Alabama resident, was killed in a car crash last night. He leaves a widow and daughter.

Monroe license bureau announces receipt of 1933 plates for passenger cars trucks trailers and other vehicles. Plates cost the same as 1932 and feature orange and vermilion colors with pelican emblem. Nine thousand plates for cars were issued and eighteen plates sold today with Mrs H J Banks first to obtain tags.
The United States weighs British and French requests to postpone and revise wartime payments. France asks for postponement of 2,000,000 due December 15, while Britain pushes for delay on its 95,550,000 due December 15. Ambassadors delivered notes to Secretary Stimson and the White House awaits translation and reaction.
The United States and Hoover administration examined Britain’s 6000 word appeal for relief from war debts. London argues debt resumption would jeopardize world recovery and urged consideration of extending payment terms beyond December 15. Congress shows no signs of changing stance.
Dr. William Few, president of Duke University, was elected president of the association of colleges and secondary schools of the southern states at the annual New Orleans meeting. He defeated F. L. McVey of Kentucky. J. H. Workman of Pensacola became first vice president. Father John W. Hynes of Loyola New Orleans second president. Guy E. Snavely was re elected treasurer. Dr. Joseph Roemer of George Peabody College joined the executive committee.
The marriage of former Maxine Elliott Rickard widow of Tex Rickard to Frank Dailey was performed over a year ago at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Rickard died January 10 1929 in Miami Beach after an appendicitis operation.
