The final session of the sixty first Congress will begin on Monday as lawmakers prepare to convene. Delegates from major committees are expected to outline agendas and set legislative priorities for the new session.
Washington dispatch notes five senators and three representatives dead since summer. New vacancies fill seats of McLaurin, Dolliver, Clay, and others. Taft's annual message expected read Tuesday. Many long-time leaders to retire or lose seats as the Sixty-first Congress opens.

Conductor John Quinn aided others, and Leona died shortly after at the hospital. The fire likely started from a grate spark.
Federal grand jury in Savannah indicts The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Seaboard Air Line Merchants and Miners Transportation Co and Harvey Miller Morris Miller grain merchants of Philadelphia for granting low rates to the millers on shipments below ICC filed rates, saving 3 cents per hundred pounds of grain.

James Brooks Oil long a New Jersey Court of Errors and Appeals member and authority on corporation law died of pneumonia in New York. He reportedly earned a fee of one million dollars for work related to organizing the United States Steel Corporation.
In New Orleans on December 2, cotton futures showed a broad decline of 15 to 22 points as prices eased across the market. Traders cited weaker demand and end of season trade adjustments influencing closing levels.
Chicago markets opened firm on wheat with prices steady to fractional gains and mixed bids. Trading showed a narrow range as traders weighed supply cues and export demand amid steady selling pressure.
Joseph Wendling, charged with the murder of Alma Kellner, testified briefly in Louisville. In Philadelphia on December 2 the United States Court of Appeals heard argument and reserved decision on a petition to review a circuit court order staying proceedings in a suit by John R. Gleason of New York against Harry K. Thaw to recover his counsel fees. Gleason had counseled Thaw during the Stanford White murder trial. After Thaw filed for bankruptcy in Pittsburgh, Gleason filed suit in New York to recover his claim.
Chicago, Dec 2. John C. Smith, president of a real estate company, was shot and killed last night by John P. Smith. The assailant is not related to the victim and jealousy was cited as the motive. The wife of the shooter works in the same real estate office.
Mr Alfred Cowles of Chicago president of Arkansas Louisiana Gulf railroad and Mr William A Otis of Colorado Springs vice president arrived in the city last night to inspect the railroad property. They came from Little Rock over the Rock Island and A L G. This morning they left with General Manager J M Parker on the regular train for a line tour and will return this afternoon on a special train.

Fort Worth Tex Dec 2 The Fort Worth High School building was destroyed by fire this morning. Loss estimated at 100000 dollars. Fourteen Mexican soldiers were killed in a clash with insurgents and freezing temperatures were reported.
Lamont Missouri December 2 A Missouri Pacific train No 4 derailed four miles west of Lamont injuring fifteen passengers seriously. The three coaches left the track early this morning and rescue efforts followed as officials investigated the cause.
Bisbee Arizona December 2 reports from Americans at Gomez Chihuahua that fourteen government soldiers were killed Monday in a clash with insurgents and Mexican government troops. The report cites scere sources reaching the border town.
New Orleans reports freezing temperatures as far south as northern Florida with killing frosts at Jacksonville and Mobile. Forecast calls for fair weather tonight and Saturday and rising temperatures across the Gulf States.
A former deputy sheriff from a nearby prohibition parish appeared before Judge Schuze this morning charged with being drunk and down. He was fined $1.00 and released. He had traveled to Monroe seeking two alleged murderers but drank too much, losing his pistols and a few cents. A Confederate army comrade refused to help him, and friends in Monroe later secured his release from jail.
