Charles H. Wells 32, handicapped by a fractured knee, crawled 100 yards to reach his wife and three year old child as a driverless car rolled toward a 250 foot drop. He retrieved his hat and stopped the vehicle at the cliff edge, despite injuries. The incident occurred while en route to see Peter the Hermit, a Hollywood recluse.
