A violent incident left two in-laws injured as a man attacked them with a gun. A first cousin by marriage was also struck as the assailant unleashed gunfire, prompting police to intervene and investigate the motive.
Police say Percy T. Barnes a 35 year old railroad employee carried out a shooting orgy over jealousy toward his estranged wife. Four men died and a fifth was wounded. Barnes named fellow worker L R Coburn as his alleged accomplice.
In New York on August 28 the Giants dropped the first game of a doubleheader to the Braves 3 to 2 marking their homecoming. Other action reports include Pittsburgh beating Philadelphia 9 to 2 to tighten race in the National League and Al Thomas holding the Athletics to three hits as Max Bishop homered for the Mackmen in a 1 0 win over the White Sox. In tennis, Geo M Lett Jr and John Hennessey won the national doubles title match 6 0 6 0 6 2 against Tapia and Unhba at Longwood Cricket Club.
Mrs Nannie Wathon Bell 64 wife of J R Bell prominent Gaffney attorney and mother of Brian Bell of the New York staff of the Associated Press died today in Gaffney Aug 28.

In New Orleans on August 28 Paul Flanery of a local hotel faced charges after allegedly beating his wife during a car ride and then assaulting police who arrived. He was charged with drunkenness disturbing the peace and assault and battery on officers.

Los Angeles reports Peter De Paolo a noted race driver showed improvement after undergoing an appendicitis operation. The update comes from doctors at a local hospital where the athlete is recovering.
Sheriff Mil ton Coverdale jailed Dan Sanderford and G C Hill after Walter Foster confessed to the May 12 theft at Ouachita Baking Co. Foster admitted entering the Grand Street shop and implicated Hill and Sanderford. Foster, Carby, and others were arrested in McAlester and returned here. Bonds set at 1500 dollars. $353 cash noted.
New York August 28 Florence Vidor motion picture star has wed Jascha Heifetz world famous concert violinist. The secret ceremony took place August 20 at the Mayfair house with Alfred Frankenthaler performing. Vidor 33 and Heifetz 27 met in California two years ago. Vidor is mother of a girl Suzanne and was previously divorced in Los Angeles from King Victor. She cited talent in one family as a career obstacle.
Anti-Smith opponent Dr A J Barton of Atlanta chairs the executive committee of the Anti-Saloon League in the south. A Baptist leader, he is known in Louisiana for pastorships in Alexandria and for founding Calvary Baptist Church there.
Prosecutors and defense examine three ardent letters found in Mrs Myrtle Melius dressing table hidden compartments. The notes from Leo P Kelley to Myrtle describe intense affection and reference her husband Frank Melius. Kelley displayed the secret compartments to the court amid the murder case in Los Angeles.
Eight people died and several were injured when three adjacent two story brick buildings in Shelby North Carolina collapsed during excavation work. The First National Bank Goodes Grocery and a tailor shop were involved with workers feared buried in the elevator shaft. The exact cause was not immediately determined.
