News of a subway crash near Times Square reports fifteen dead and ninety injured with three later deaths. The ninth car split a damaged switch and tore a wall, with cars two and four overturning as trains collided in the crowded rush hour.
Thirty musicians at the Saenger theater in New Orleans went on strike today after Saenger Theaters Inc failed to pay organists at the Tudor theater, an affiliated house, during its closure for repairs. Union officials say a contract required payment to the organists.

In BISMARCK on August 25, Governor A G Serlie remains in a weakened, critical state after several weeks of heart illness and recurring heart attacks. Relatives were notified of his condition.
Two young-looking women aged 20 and 19 were detained by Special Agent Buck Sevier and Officer BP Ham after being found at a coal chute of the Illinois Central Railroad. They claimed to have left Bald Knob Arkansas last Tuesday and had little money. One offered the name Ray Williams and the other Ethel Edom. They rode part of the way by freight and auto and walked much of the distance. They appeared as men to several onlookers.
Construction will begin next week on the Monroe to Memphis natural gas line spanning from near Guthrie to Lake Village with routes via Bastrop and crossing the Mississippi at Greenville. The $6.3 million bond issue backs the Memphis Natural Gas company mortgage with insurance and trustees listed. gas supply to Memphis will come from Industrial Gas, with completion aimed for early.

The nose wheel burst on landing but all three crew members escaped unharmed and the pilot vowed to try again after repairs.
In New Orleans Judge Hough Cage will issue a civil district court opinion Monday on the legality of a proposed emergency loan of 3.7 million dollars to the Louisiana highway commission. Arguments were completed yesterday with L Williams a Canal Bank and Trust stockholder seeking an injunction to bar the bank from participating in the loan.

A New York Central passenger train ran into an open switch at Parchment Michigan injuring three crew members and killing engineer Albert L Weatherwax of Elkhart Indiana. The locomotive and two cars overturned as the switch, not securely locked, flew open about 9 30 am. Weatherwax died beneath the cab while fireman Joseph J Yoder expressman Roy Diev and a mail clerk were treated for burns chest injuries and slight hurts respectively.
Mrs Joe T Robison plans to accompany her husband on his campaign for vice president. She will travel with him to the South after his formal notification at Hot Springs. She has long campaigned with him for various offices and emphasized her interest in polling and politics.
Preliminary census data submitted to Mayor Arnold Bernstein indicate a total population of 22 026 for the city and soon to be annexed suburbs. The present city counts 19 786 residents with 2 240 in areas to join later, marking a natural growth increase of 7 311 since 1920. A detailed precinct tabulation will be released Monday.
William Dart shot at his son-in-law Claude Gowan and killed his daughter Louise Dart Gowan at the Dart home near Dibson's landing Bath New York. Gowan was seriously wounded and later listed in critical condition at Bath hospital. Dart surrendered to Sheriff Lynn Kellogg. The couple had been married four years and shared a three year old son.
The state board of liquidation adopted a resolution creating an eleven citizen committee appointed by Governor Long to approve expenditures from the proposed 330 million bond issue for highways.
