Aug 25 reports from Berlin Send Namur forts fallen to German forces after bombardment and a rapid advance. British and French papers call the news dreadfully bad and vow to fight to a finish as Allied lines recoil. Additional dispatches note engagements near Ostend and Charleroi with heavy German troop movements in Prussia and Lorraine.

Paris Aug 25 The Belgian army moved south from Antwerp joining British and French units along the Mons to Luxemburg battle line. North of that sector the German offensive, halted yesterday, appears to have resumed today but is checked by Allied forces.
Paris reports the French and English withdrew to covering positions after failed offensive plans. West of the Meuse the British on the left held ground against German attack while French two corps attacked, an African brigade suffered heavy losses before retreating. Prussian guard and counterattacks caused more fighting south of the Semois as Joffe ordered withdrawal. The forces remain intact and ready for renewed action when signaled.
The Ouachita Parish Canning Club Girls exhibit canned goods and needlework at the Monroe Chamber office Friday and Saturday under Miss Marie Miller. Prof. E S Richardson of Baton Rouge will speak Friday afternoon and a fruit and vegetable canning demonstration led by Miss Miller is planned for Saturday morning.
