Moscow reports warn that a new Soviet note may aim to halt Western passenger airliners using Berlin’s air corridors. The move could test four power agreements and the safety center that has long governed flights from Frankfurt, Hannover, and Hamburg.
An all women jury found seven ex police officers guilty of conspiracy to burglarize and launder stolen goods linked to the Summerdale case. Sentences ranged one to five years with two fines of 500 dollars. Patrick Groark’s bench trial decision pending. Morrison’s testimony spurred department reforms.
The Army indicated it will begin bringing 37 National Guard units into federal service by early or mid October. Guardsmen may be designated in advance to fill units as they shift from state to federal control, with notifications to individuals due by September 15.

Jackson Mississippi AP report described arrests of Freedom Riders amid threats of violence from crowds and refusals to move on. Capt. J L Ray said the group was removed to prevent violence, noting fear of harm to riders and a witness that Henry Thomas would not be in the shape he is today. The defense argued riders did not intend disruption.

Senate investigators tied Boston gambler Angelo Rossetti to a wire news service that supplied illegal book betting rooms from Montreal to Miami and Steubenville. Rossetti invoked the Fifth Amendment as the committee mapped the network stretching through Montreal Manchester Lawrence Providence Philadelphia Wilmington Atlantic City Baltimore Miami with branches to Worcester Hartford Pottsville Steubenville Cincinnati and New Orleans.
Washington AP reports the Health Education and Welfare Department released a 24 page primer titled Pogo Primer for Parents. Walt Kelly creator of Pogo offers guidance to parents on supervising child TV viewing with emphasis on loving the child. The book features Albert the Alligator and carries Welfare sponsorship announced at a news conference.
Col. William M. Banks 46 was found innocent of neglect in the January tower collapse in the Atlantic off the New Jersey coast that killed 28. The verdict by Col. Jean Rydstrom awaits board approval. trial at Stewart Air Force Base continues for a ruling by eight officers.
W C Brown, president of the Tensas Basin Level Board, argues locks should be moved south of Jonesville to deepen the Ouachita and Black Rivers channel. He claims Monroe and surrounding towns would benefit, and cites surveys placing Jonesville in the Monroe trade area.
Mexico's population is estimated at about 35.8 million at the start of June, up from 34,732,183 in the June 1950 census. Department director Albino Zertuche of the Commerce and Industry Ministry cited an average daily growth of 3,013 persons.

Waggoner said some subcontractors may have colluded, while Terrall was not involved, and the board sought an attorney general ruling on collusion.
President Kennedy's Peace Corps bill faces the first Senate test as Republicans hint at trimming the $40 million outlay to $25 million. Humphrey predicts passage with little change, while Fulbright expresses misgivings and Lausche notes committee support for a $15 million cut was rejected.
A head on collision on Highway 23 near Myrtle Grove killed William Madere 18 and Larry A Keating 34 of Laplace. Lancy Madere 19 brother of William and L G Freund 38 of New Orleans were injured, Freund losing control after crossing a railroad siding.
Fidel Castro regime admitted sending a truce talk feeler to President Kennedy. Ernesto Guevara said he informed Richard Goodwin at a Uruguay cocktail party that Cuba would talk within the hemispheric community. White House aide Pierre Salinger dismissed the meeting as non political. Guevara added the US had failed to organize armed aggression against Cuba.
Moscow reports a Soviet note accusing West German authorities of illegal interference in West Berlin. It demands keeping agitators from air corridors and hints at future negotiations to ban transport of West German officials to Berlin.
Soviet notes delivered to U S Britain and France in Moscow urged halting the movement of West German troublemakers into West Berlin and questioned the 1945 air corridor agreement. Britain rejected the claim and cited implicit rights to access in West Berlin. Service chiefs briefed the Foreign Office as Macmillan and Eden were informed.
