Paris reports the Allies have crippled six German armies since July and press into the seventh along a seventy mile front. Observers say the aim is to wear down Germany with successive blows, not to pierce the line, causing heavy losses and controlled retreats.
A special session discussed financing two good roads districts with aid from the state and federal governments. Secretary Cross urged a 500.00 appropriation to the Ouachita Agricultural Fair, while Engineer Boyd cited gravel costs rising to 2.53 12 per cubic yard and proposed an 8000.00 maintenance truck and 20000.00 yearly upkeep.
The Minnie, a large mine thrower called by Germans a mine werfer, has been captured from the Huns and will be part of the U S war exposition opening in Chicago on September 2. It is shown in position with a big shell ready in the muzzle for throwing at trenches.
British troops hold most of the Arras to Albert railroad and push beyond it. They report advances east to the Bapaume road and cross the Ancre near Albert. French forces under General Mangin press the Germans along the Oise as German positions yield to Allied assaults.
Paris dispatch reports Humber’s army pushing between the Matz and Oise rivers and reaching the Aisillette river. French officers say the fall of Noyon appears inevitable as advances continue.
Paris Aug 22 German troops retreated along a twenty mile front to a depth of one to two miles from Lassigny to the Aillette as Allied forces pressed their offensive. The advance marks a significant setback for German defenses in the sector.
New York report notes the Entente allies and Sweden ratified a commercial treaty. It grants 400000 tons of dead weight shipping to the Allies and ensures Sweden will not reexport goods imported from Allied nations to the Central Powers.
The war office reports French forces occupy four villages Lellemont Thiescourt Cannetean court and Ville, reach the Divette river and extend six miles along the Oise east of Neyon. Additional villages Bourgueson St. Paul Aux Bois taken. Aillette river at Laquincy Basse and western Pommiers area on the Aisne west of Soissons captured.
British forces attacked the Germans between the Somme and Ancre rivers and crossed the Aris Baonume railway despite heavy resistance. Between two and three thousand prisoners were taken in yesterday’s operations as British troops advanced to Neuf Berquin northeast of Merville.
Deputy Sheriff John M. Brothers returned from Alexandria with Floy McCay and John Brim both colored. McCay was sent by Ouachita parish local board and Brim at Meridian Mississippi's local board request to Camp Beauregard for military detention.
Fifty dollars rewards offered for information proving authorship of an unsigned note dated August 19 1918. The original is on file in the writer’s office for handwriting identification. The note warns Herman McGuire to remove cows from a range within five days or face action. Reports to H M McGuire Monroe La or T A Grant Sheriff.
Montreal reports virtually the entire Maritime Fish Corporation fleet, including American and Canadian registry boats, destroyed after the trawler Triumph was captured by a German submarine crew and armed.
Andrew Jackson, a Negro employee of Manager McDuffer on Bon Air plantation, was arrested Wednesday afternoon near the section house after threatening to kill John Forey, white section foreman for the V S and P Railway. Earlier dispute reported, Jackson reportedly went home for a pistol and returned intent on harm.
An official dispatch from France says two internal councils will coordinate Allied efforts in Russia. One council at Archangel includes Entente ambassadors under U.S. Ambassador Frances, and a second at Vladivostok will be five high officials. They will act as diplomatic reps with independent Russian governments in Siberia to pave the way for an economic industrial commission for Russia's rehabilitation.

A tornado struck Tyler Minnesota at 10 o'clock last night tearing the town to pieces. Authorities report thirty to thirty five deaths with over one hundred injured. Twenty seven bodies have been identified. The disaster largely spared only a movie theater where 200 people were sheltered. Sixteen victims died when a restaurant wall collapsed.
American aviators with the American Army in France bombed Lanzuy and Audun-Le-Roman northeast of Verdun yesterday. Ground crews hit a railroad track and round house. An American pilot brought down a German airplane on Wednesday.
Harry Peterson a young white man was arrested this morning at Wenwil by Deputy Sheriff D L Hye per on a charge of stealing $100 from Charley Jones. Peterson is detained by the sheriff while efforts to obtain bond continue. Both worked at the Lenvyi saw mill.
British casualties in London report for the week ending today total 8 411, down from 8 620 the previous week. Killed or Died of Wounds Officers 216, men 1 372.
