Confession Sought in Ouachita Hot Check Case
Ouachita parish sheriff department seeks a confessed hot check passer named Robert E Holiday alias Robert F Holiday and Robert S Hollady. Texarkana authorities say the 49 year old man admitted passing the check Monday or Tuesday in Texarkana while traveling in a 1940 Chevrolet Florida plate 1 57464. He is tall, weighs 220 pounds, with thin hair and was detained by Chief Max Tackett. State police were notified and are awaiting a complaint to file detainer.

Five Arrested In Copper Wire Theft Case
Sheriff Bailey Grant said five black men were arrested Wednesday in Monroe for theft of about 2,500 pounds of copper wire. Bonds set at $750 each. Suspects include John Bennett 52 and four Northern Van Buren employees who loaded burned insulation wire onto trucks and dumped it at a city dump before selling to a Monroe scrap dealer. The value of stolen wire estimated at $650.

Fred Fudickar Jr, savings bonds committee chairman for Ouachita parish, reports July sales of 120,675 in Series E and H bonds at issue price. State totals hit 3,199,284 for July, 47.6 percent of the goal, while Ouachita’s seven month total was 634,141, 43.7 percent of its 1,450,141 quota. Nationwide seven month sales of Series E and H were 2,909,507, the highest January–July total since wartime 1945.

Service School Organized For Reserve Members At Selman Field
A service unit school has been organized at Selman Field to serve reserve members of the 4167th Army Reserve. Captain George L. Whitmeyer, unit advisor, says the school offers courses from Fort Leavenworth Fort Riley and the Judge Advocate General. A signal course from Fort Monmouth is expected to start soon. Officers R. L. Johnson and E. R. Rogers arrested Rayville resident McClain on suspicion of theft after spotting him on the street in the 1300 block of DeSiard. A knife was found in his possession. Police believe another car was stolen and traced it to a Rayville owner.

Man Drowns Near Allen Dam. Second Parish Drowning
Irvin Cox drowned in 25 feet of water a quarter mile above Allen dam after his boat capsized. Sheriff Morris and Wilson Cedars of the rescue squad recovered the body, later moved to Jonesboro. Cox survived by a widow and one child. The parish saw a second drowning when Robert Redford, 11, fell into a stock pond near Powhatan and could not swim.
