A new fire station to serve as Station No. 4 will be built near Lee avenue and Jackson street with a four-way opening, a fire truck, and a crew to improve fire protection and insurance ratings for Monroe.

Eastbound Illinois Central passenger train No. 104 struck a Ford truck at a West Rayville crossing, demolishing the vehicle and injuring driver Joe Fatheree who was trapped under the boiler head. Three Bandits Hold Up Woodmore Bank for 16000
