After Sunday calm renewed activities start up Monday as campaigns resume across multiple offices. Voter engagement and party organization pick up pace with volunteers canvassing and candidates detailing platforms. Local races include municipal and county positions with varied competitiveness.
In Mississippi on the eve of the state’s Democratic primary 7000 candidates prepare to vote after Sabbath rest. Governor hopefuls Mike Conner and Theodore Bilbo plan a major day of campaigns including a Pontotoc joint debate as Bilbo and Conner vie for attention in the northern central district.
Thomas Alva Edison showed marked improvement but remained in danger. Dr. Hubert S. Howe called his condition satisfactory yet said recovery remains uncertain and a collapse could be serious. Edison’s son Charles reported he was in good spirits and chipper as he discussed treatment with doctors.

Mrs Planto Edney daughter of a Hendersonville banker was shot to death at home while her two children were seriously wounded. A posse pursued the suspected Edney in nearby mountains as bloodhounds were sought from Buncombe county. The incident remains largely unrevealed due to the remoteness of the area.
The first of two large cribs for the Ouachita river bridge project on the west bank opposite Louisville avenue was completed and floated into place. Dimensions are 87 by 42 feet, with the section planned to rise about 21 feet in height. C B Schafer leads construction and expects a formal work order soon as preliminary work continues.

Col and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh landed at Churchill Manitoba after a 7515 mile flight from Moose Factory. They plan a noon takeoff for Baker Lake 275 miles north as part of a 7000 mile journey to the Orient. The eight hour forty five minute hop occurred in stormy weather over uninhabited terrain drawing about 2000 Churchill residents to watch.
C Rex King arrived from Asheville North Carolina to be questioned about the fatal wounding of two North Carolina youths found in a swamp clearing last October. Sheriff Howard Curlin expected witnesses who saw Burton Hensley and Woodrow Wilson with an older companion to view King and help decide where he will be held. King denied knowledge of the killings as witnesses were set to testify.
Dr. Joseph E. Johnson, renowned for plastic surgery and wartime service, died at home in Memphis at age 59 after several years of illness. He directed plastic surgery at the army school in Philadelphia during World War I and later became a major at Base Hospital 52. He was a member of the University of Tennessee Medical College at the time of his death.
Baton Rouge hosts a three day farmers short course August 10 to 13 with cattlemen’s association meeting August 12. Out of state experts John Burns J M Snyder Frank Scofield and B M Anderson join local speakers on beef cattle production Brahman cattle and related topics.
A night watchman at the Cheniere sawmill was overpowered around midnight and robbed of his pistol. The assailant, described as six feet tall with light brown skin and about 175 to 180 pounds, fled with the weapon. his name was not known to the victim.
Col George W Bolton 89 longtime Louisiana banker and former speaker of the Louisiana house of representatives died at his home in Alexandria He chaired Rapides Bank and Trust and helped found churches He served in the Confederate army and held various state and local posts including police jury and 1879 1908 constitutional conventions Married Tennessee Wade in 1868. J S Snider Sr head of Snider Publishing firm and publisher of five north Mississippi newspapers died at his Senatobia home of a heart attack at age 82. He previously lived in Grenada and helped organize the Grenada bank. He served three terms as Senatobia mayor.
Refueling in air success cited for the Fort Worth crew Reg L. Robbins and Harold S. Jones as they press toward a Seattle to Tokyo nonstop run. A second air refueling at Unalakleet and Yukon valley progress are noted amid bad weather delays.
Corpus Christi Texas August 3 Newton Yarberry was held today in connection with the death of 18 year old Dorothy Doris Symons whose body in a bathing suit was found in a mud and seaweed grave at the edge of the channel near Arkansas Pass. The girl left her home two days earlier to attend choir practice. An inquest verdict reported death by strangulation. Yarberry, said to be last seen with her, will face an examining trial Tuesday.
