Washington, Aug. 3. Louisiana lawmakers endorse Gov. Wilson’s stance against radical tariff action. They favor revision that protects all industries, not damaging one for a small consumer benefit. Senate plans aim to lower sugar duties temporarily, with Bristow, Penrose, Lodge, Bailey and Simmons on the conference committee.
The free traders in the House led by Harrison of New York back Gov. Wilson’s tariff approach urging sugar be postponed until Democrats rewrite tariffs. They seek to wait to secure free sugar for refining constituents.
Chicago August 3. Progressive headquarters at Congress Hotel report completion of convention plans to nominate Theodore Roosevelt and designate a running mate on the third party ticket. Newnan Georgia August 3 Eugene H Grace voiced anger after his wife was acquitted of shooting him declaring she is guilty in gods eyes and he was shot in cold blood He offered five thousand dollars if she proves he flirted after marriage and called her testimony sacrilege and a lie.

Provisions authorize the continuance of the Tax Commission or a committee to aid the General Assembly in framing amendments to be ratified at the November 5, 1912 general election. Severe weather in Shreveport Friday night saw a lightning bolt strike the flagpole atop the new post office at Texas and Marshall, then tear across Marshall Street and bend the K of P sign on The Times building. The flagpole remained intact while the sign was damaged. The storm caused heavy rain and streetcar delays, and knocked out power to Times typesetting for about two hours.
In Washington on August 3 the Senate voted 33 to 28 to recede from its reciprocity repeal amendment to the steel bill. The measure is now approved by both houses and will go to the President. Progressives Bristow Clapp Crawford La Follette Poinge nster Works joined Democrats in the decision.
In Auburn New York a well dressed stranger is held as a suspect possibly Henry Horowitz alias Gib The Blood or Lefty Louie. He and a companion fled when officers approached as they tried to board a west bound train. one man escaped.

Fire exchange occurred as unidentified gunmen fired on U S soldiers in El Paso causing heightened security measures. No injuries were officially reported and investigation is ongoing. Local authorities appealed for witnesses to come forward.
About fifty shots were exchanged between United States soldiers and unidentified men from the Mexican side of the Rio Grande near an El Paso foundry. No American fatalities. several houses including C P Cole A Martinez Curtis Williams Yonkers were struck. Authorities investigate suspected plan to distract soldiers so ammunition could be smuggled.
Berlin reports the Mexican Government ordered rifles and ammunition from the Mauser factory for immediate delivery totaling $875,000. The AP notes the purchase reflects arms procurement by the Mexican government during the period.
The Louisiana Retail Furniture Dealers Association will meet in Monroe on September 23 and 24 with a large state-wide turnout anticipated. Officers include President John Schaffer of New Orleans Secretary A A Stillman of Lake Charles and Treasurer J M Cobb of Monroe. Local arrangements are led by J M Cobb and M M Munholland who are already planning.
