The Monroe reserve detachment commander 1st Lt. Julian Fontana was promoted to captain by the 101st Evacuation Hospital unit in Shreveport. The Monroe unit, with 13 enlisted men and three officers, drills in Monroe and trains with the Shreveport main unit. Fontana earned his ROTC commission at Northeast Louisiana State College and served at Fort Sam Houston from 1961 to 1963. He joined the 4th in January 1964 and is a local pharmacist. In 1934 Adolf Hitler proclaimed himself Germany's absolute dictator after President Hindenburg's death.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. in Monroe for Mary Kimberley Siedenspinner infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Siedenspinner. Rev. George Martinez officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. The infant died shortly after birth Tuesday morning in St. Francis Hospital. Survivors include three sisters Terri Lynn Jeanne and Bettye Ann Siedenspinner, one brother Wayne Siedenspinner, maternal grandparents Ardel V. Saucier, paternal grandmother Mrs. J. L. Siedenspinner Sr., and maternal great grandmother Mrs. Ed Saucier, all of Monroe.
