Rioters attacked Americans in Saigon and kidnapped one civilian identified as Larry Dewitt, while mobs burned a U S Army jeep and clashed with paratroopers. Buddhist leaders announced a truce with Premier Ky but protests escalated across Hue Da Nang and Saigon.
Richland Parish Police Jury President George Sumlin denounces a parish hospital project, noting Delhi has modern facilities and predicting residents would pay about 49 percent of construction costs. The jury also authorized a feasibility survey and the formation of a planning commission amid other actions.
West Berlin officials report mutilated bodies found in the Ha vel River in the sunken Soviet jet. The Soviet Union says the two man crew died in the Wednesday crash. Earlier divers found no bodies according to a British spokesman at the scene.
Britain asks the United Nations Security Council to authorize force if needed to halt tankers delivering oil to Rhodesia via Portuguese Mozambique. Prime Minister Harold Wilson assigns Elwyn Jones to support Lord Caradon as Lisbon debates piping Rhodesia oil through Lonrho Pipeline to Umtali.

U S troops of the 25th Division seized a Viet Cong base camp 20 miles north of Saigon in heavy fighting and killed at least 24 Communists. Air Force and Navy planes launched heavy strikes on the Communist north as South Vietnam faced political turmoil and anti government rioting in Saigon.
Houston UPI reports Commissioner Joe Foss resigns as AFL leader after six years at the helm. Foss, former South Dakota governor, says he is weighing several offers but provides no immediate reasons for stepping down.
William F. Joyce 25 of Stoughton Mass was killed in action at Quan Lai with the 1st Battalion 7th Marines. He used alias Richard J. Preskenis to enlist in 1963 to avoid past trouble with police. The Defense Department lists Preskenis as the casualty, but Joyce was listed by next of kin Mrs Paul Collins. The Marine Corps confirms Joyce's true name after notifications reach Brockton and Livermore Falls.
Acting Gov Carroll Gartin signed the congressional reapportionment into law in Jackson Mississippi just before the candidate qualification deadline for the June primaries. The plan cleared the Senate and then the House after hours of wrangling as Gartin, acting for Gov Johnson in New York, endorsed it to end the long dispute.
