County Agent J. J. Joyce Jr warns farmers to begin culling and marketing surplus beef cattle now due to heavy livestock holdings and grain shortages. He stresses using livestock to efficiently utilize idle acres and urges market action before the fall rush to aid national cattle movement.
The June 13 meeting of the Child Welfare Advisory Council in Monroe Louisiana reviewed adoption versus foster care, stressing placement via authorized agencies, keeping adoptive parents private from natural relatives, and coordinated state services to protect children.
Louisiana State University official C E Kemmerly Jr said plans are under way to enlist 20 000 or more boys and girls for emergency work during the summer and fall. Last year about 15 000 youths under 18 helped on farms and an emergency corps of over 800 saved large portions of crops.
