American Flying Fortresses and Liberators with Thunderbolt fighters bombed Emden, shooting down 138 German planes and leaving the port ablaze. Seventeen bombers and three fighters were lost, while 21 German planes fell to fighters and 117 to bombers in a daylight air battle.
Reports indicate rapid Allied buildup across Europe and the Middle East. Leaders Roosevelt Churchill and Stalin coordinate in Washington and Moscow as Tehran and Cairo host talks shaping planned spring attacks. The Druse frontier battles near collapse while Soviet forces crush Nazi morale along the Dnieper, threatening mass enemy encirclement.
In a 48 hour dogfight in the north Atlantic British and American planes and ships beat off at least 20 German U boats sinking five and damaging three before most convoys reached harbor. In civil district court Mrs Emile J Marcadel seeks 10000 against F Laudumiey and Company Ltd undertakers alleging disruption of her husband’s funeral on May 17. Laudumiey counters with 452.38 against Mrs Marcadel. She says the hearse driver swerved through the procession, sped to the cemetery, drank in a nearby saloon, and did not return for 45 minutes. Judge Paul E Chasez held the case under advisement.
A deep cold wave sweeps the Atlantic coast from Maine to Virginia with record lows and damaging winds. Temperatures dip to 2% degrees below zero at Owl's Head New York and five below at High Point Park New Jersey. highs reach into the teens in several cities. Winds up to 73 mph at LaGuardia and wreckage includes downed poles and glass. One death reported as a sailor from Holden Massachusetts dies in a motorcycle accident. The 8,000 ton Pan Georgia ship runs aground in Upper New York Bay.
Allied forces in Italy report the Fifth Army driving toward Cassino from east and south while fighting rages at San Pietro and San Leonardo. Italian troops join the battle north of Mignano as Germans and Hermann Goering division counterattack. A second Moro River bridgehead is established inland, with Italian patriots placed under international protection.

General Henry H. Arnold states that Germany would offer little resistance to Allied forces when the western invasion arrives. He notes strengthened Flying Fortresses and Liberators and envisions 360 degree bombing of Germany with Allied and Soviet air support.

Washington December 11 new reduction in pork item values announced by Price Administrator Chester Bowles. Effective 12:01 am Monday the following pork items drop one point per pound: steaks roasts smoked ham bacon ready to eat meat and one point for fresh and smoked pork products. Fresh hams not cured or smoked drop two points per pound. Certain sausages drop one point. Variety meats hearts livers tongues and some items remain unchanged.
