New Orleans Study Recommends Brush Dams to Curb Erosion

A Southern Forest Experiment Station paper advises using temporary brush and pole dams to build soil deposits in gullies and control erosion on small drainage areas. Four dam types described include simple brush obstacles and pole-frame structures, lasting up to five years, aimed at vegetation growth rather than blocking flow. H. G. Shrimp Canneries Fix Price Amid Strike in Louisiana

In Louisiana during August, shrimp packers agree on a $7 per barrel floor for raw shrimp as a resolution to a strike that began August 10. W L Baker, a Fishermen's Union official, says an agreement would raise pay to $8 per barrel by September 1, with $9 if not opened by midnight September 1, and $8 lasting until September 10. The dispute included violence and arrests, and large shrimp quantities were dumped en route to New Orleans markets.

Mrs. Ernest Jackson of Natchez Miss died in a Pecos hospital after an auto accident ten miles north of Pecos Texas when a tire blew out. Two Dallas women Mrs W O Williamson 50 and Mrs Ollie Williamson 25 were injured mildly. They were traveling to Carlsbad New Mexico to visit Mrs Jackson's sister.

250000 Project Near Completion At Fairbanks

A quarter million dollar Fairbanks compressor station of the Southern Carbon company nears operation near Fairbanks next Sept 1. The Columbian Gasoline corporation designed and staffs the plant, which will pressurize and compress natural gas from Monroe wells for Monroe and Alexandria demand. The facility features a dual header system, closed jacket water cooling, seven 12 250 hp engines, three 140 hp generators, and a 50 000 gallon elevated tank for jacket cooling water. The project includes a 16 inch pipeline from Perryville to Fairbanks and aims to add about 1500 dollars monthly to local payroll.

Ruston Negro to Be Tried Monday on Liquor Charge
