Construction firm refuses to release details about an accident near Sitka Alaska. Navy reports indicate eight workers were trapped after a jackhammer struck a hidden dynamite charge. Sitka sits on Baranof Island 100 miles southwest of Juneau and hosts a growing defense hub.
The Woman's Shop at 115 DeSiard Street carries Buster Brown and Robin Hood shoes for school children. A larger stock was received at the request of many clients. Buster Brown offers a six point fitting service and a personal child size record is provided.
Chicago reports a patient in a hospital hub discusses producing silk thread at home. William Vandrasek, a former worm grower, demonstrates cocoon thread unraveling to nurses and suggests more room and eggs could employ crippled patients. The funeral for Patricia Ann Thompson, five month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard L Thompson of highway 80 five miles from West Monroe, was conducted at Deans chapel on old Arkansas road Friday at 2 30 p m with Rev Jeff Dean officiating and burial at Smith Cemetery.

About 50 workers affected. Dorcheat LaSalle parish area rigs were at stake. The company refused a closed shop, prompting the walkout.
Aug 15 report from Camp Forrest shows Private William Gold of Chicago cutting his hair after orders for uniform appearance. He resisted until Lt Colonel James Hilton of the 1st battalion intervened, stressing the need for uniformity among the 131st infantry.
