Elderly man fails hijack bid on Eastern jet to Cuba
A 73 year old Philadelphia man John Scott McCreery armed with a five inch razor and knife attempted to force the Eastern Airlines DC9 flight 379 from Charlotte to Cuba. He was arrested by the FBI in Tampa after the plane landed and charged with threatening the crew and carrying a deadly weapon. The flight carried 70 people, and the hijack attempt marked the seventh failed U.S. or Latin American airliner hijack of the year.
