Neenah Woman and Nephew Die in Lightning Caused Fire

Shirley Manor, 48, and her eight-year-old nephew Dennis Pitsch died in a Neenah home fire believed to be sparked by a lightning strike. Shirley’s husband Charles Manor, 58, was hospitalized with extensive burns. Firefighters found the two victims on the first floor. coroner says smoke inhalation caused their deaths.

No retroactivity for taxes in Lucey decision

Gov. Patrick J. Lucey told the Wisconsin Department of Revenue that liquor wine and cigarette taxes in the current budget proposal would not be retroactive effective only on the day the budget bill becomes law Edward Wiegner secretary of revenue said Lucey advised the excise taxes would take effect as of the budget bill's enactment date

Marshfield Woman Killed in U S 10 Crash

The 1971 Wisconsin traffic toll rose to 812 after the death of Mrs Thelma Foote, 58, of rural Marshfield in a collision at the U S 10 and Wood County Trunk A intersection southeast of Marshfield. The death brings the year toll to 812, down from 864 on the same date last year.
