Gov. Lucey said the state seeks Agriculture Secretary Hardin's aid to disaster-declare central Wisconsin farming areas hit by Tuesday's storm. Initial estimates put seven-county damage over 2.5 million dollars, with three counties already reaching that level.
Ashland Wisconsin set for Monday mediation as state mediators from the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission convene to resolve the Ashland public school teachers strike. Bill Kahn of the Ashland Federation of Teachers and Charles Ackerman of the school board arranged the session. Federation president Frank Myatt said a settlement should be reached.
The 1971 Wisconsin traffic death toll increased to 814 with two Iowa County crashes. Vernon Kuhns, 16, of Arthur, Illinois, died when his flatbed truck skidded off a curve on Interstate 80 north of Highland. Robert Doyle, 26, of Darlington, died in a single vehicle crash on U S 1839 west of Dodgeville after his car struck a building following a stop sign violation.
