Boy Found Safe After Three Hour Search Near Monticello

Wade Cullen, 2? year old, wandered from home on Route 1 Monticello and was found in a field about half a mile from farm buildings after a three hour search by Green County Sheriff Roy Vetterli and deputies. Dozens of volunteers, Albany Fire Department and Civil Defense aided. he was located by John Kelander of Juda at 9 17 p.m. He appeared unhurt and ate a candy bar from his grandmother. Sheriff praised interagency cooperation. The report also notes The Milwaukee Road sought permission to discontinue two Chicago St Paul trains.

Largest Green County auction shocks locals at Don S Trow Estate

HELEN E ZIMMERLI reports the Wednesday sale at the Don S Trow Estate farm three miles north of Albany drew up to 3,000 people and extensive bidding. Bidders paid top dollar for firearms and gear, including $240 for a gun, $90 for a bear trap, and $30 for an Army bugle, with a final 162 acre parcel auctioned late into the night amid a stocked, noisy sale.

Family of West Africa veteran tours America by trailer

John P. Sifling, a U S Foreign Service officer, and his wife and two young children travel the Midwest by a 26 foot Air Stream trailer as part of a government program to broaden officers’ geographical knowledge. The family, returning from Dakar Senegal, began Sept 14 in Washington and will visit New York Cleveland Beloit and the Grand Canyon en route home. The couple met in Paris and Bonn and have lived in the foreign service since their marriage.
