Sweden Gives Dag Hammarskjold State Funeral Honors
Sweden today honored Dag Hammarskjold with a solemn ceremonial tribute matching royal decency. Coffins of Hammarskjold and nine other crash victims arrived at Bromma Airport escorted by eight jet fighters as soldiers and Red Cross formed a guard of honor. A 43 man army band played the royal death march while Hammarskjold’s coffin was placed on a caisson and green wreaths adorned the coffins. A state funeral is planned for Friday in Uppsala following Sweden’s royal ritual.
