City Council approves civil defense buildup and drills
The Monroe City Council last night authorized four police leaves of absence for active service with the 32nd Division and moved to strengthen civil defense. Plans include an emergency generator for City Hall and police station, a top level antenna, and radiological, chemical, and biological defense training for officers and firefighters. Drews, CD director, will lead training with instructors from the state and a radiological course by Dr. Zach. Six new civil defense posts were approved and a survey begun to select an alarm system with industry cooperation.

Plan for trailer rules and elm spraying on council agenda
City council set October 3 public hearings for proposed ordinances regulating trailers and truck garden produce sales in the business district and authorizing elm tree spraying.
