Ward Chairmen Named for Drive in Eight City Wards

Anderegg Signs With Pro Team In Hawaii Chiefs

Robert Anderegg a former Monroe High School and Michigan State star departs for Los Angeles to train with the Hawaiian Chiefs in the new American Basketball League. He leaves Hormel in Cleveland on leave after service and signed a one year contract to base in Honolulu after the season. TB skin tests slated for several county grades

Tuberculin skin tests will begin Monday for first, fifth, ninth and 12th graders in the county. Readings occur two days after testing with centers at Brodhead, Juda, Albany, Monroe, New Glarus, Monticello, Browntown and Brodhead rural sites. Consent slips are required and returned to teachers or at clinics. tests may be repeated at intervals and extended to others exposed to tuberculosis.

Esther Churning Toward Carolinas

CAPE HATTERAS NC Hurricane Esther moved toward the North Carolina coast triggering mass evacuations from low lying areas. Winds reached 150 mph as warnings extended from Cherry Point NC to Cape May NJ with gale warnings up the coast. The center was 335 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras and moving at 14 mph. Residents moved trailers inland as tides rose, amid warnings that the storm is dangerous with destructive winds.

Highway Crash Fatal to Three in Wisconsin Traffic Toll Rises

A head on collision on Highway 8 west of Ladysmith killed Michael Rhodes aged 20 of Chetek and Mrs. Jeanette Cabak 24 of Minneapolis and Mary Jane Green 14 of Chetek died earlier at St Marys hospital. Arnold Linderud 14 of Stoughton died after a car train crash in Dane County and Dwight Pugh 16 remained in satisfactory condition. The Wisconsin traffic toll for the year reached 618 with five Stoughton students among the injured passengers.

East Berliners Break into West in Monday Night Escape

Police report detail a group of East Berliners led by Derlin climbing rooftops and sliding down a rope into West Berlin. A woman was injured and hospitalized during the fall. In a separate incident two East Berliners breached barbed wire as bullets from Communist police opened fire.

Callup To Take Four Policemen

The Monroe Police Department, now at full strength after months, will be hit by 32nd Division activation. Four officers are Guard members including assistant chief Dwight C. Coplien. Nikolay Faces Callup to Duty in Wisconsin Dem Fight
