Emergency room records show 24 people treated during Cheese Days weekend at St. Clare Hospital for minor injuries mainly abrasions and contusions. A float mishap injured two, while children suffered nails and cuts. Sgt. Jimmie Howard drew parade interest over protocol. Sunday about Cheese Day history and Heritage Day activities marked Wonderful Wisconsin Week in Monroe. The event featured interviews with Harry Young, recalling 1914 committee work, and honors to Henry G. Leuenberger the so called father of Cheese Days. Museums displayed past clippings, songs, floats, and photos including Marion Burgy 1923 queen. 85 visitors attended museum displays with Orville and Mrs Evans in charge. Education and Youth Day preceded Wisconsin at Work events.

Cheese Days attracts antique car owners back to Monroe

Royce Schulz reports that about one hundred car enthusiasts and families enjoyed Cheese Days with cars arriving Friday. Vehicles ranged from $500 to $25,000, including a $18,000 Cadillac and Beloit owner Hap Hornbostel’s rare 1900 Milwaukee Steamer. Judges announced winners across classes such as Steam and Hi-Wheelers, Vintage Cars, Model T Ford, Brass Age, and Classic Cars, with Best of Show awarded to Fred Schollmeyer for a 1928 Ford. Trophies were donated by the New Car and Truck Dealers of Monroe.

Collection Point For Hogs Slated

A new hog collection point for NFO members will open Thursday Sept 21 at New Laria stockyards and be held each Thursday thereafter, in addition to Tuesday Evansville hogs. Last week 670 hogs at Evansville topped $19.40, 40 cents above the previous high. Cattle and calves are collected at Evansville on Wednesdays.
