Green County Mental Health group to host governor reception

Mrs. Hanz Sulzer announced three volunteers Mrs. John Anderegg Jr Mrs. Hugo Voelkli Monroe and Mrs. Donald Witt rural Monticello will attend a Governor Warren Knowles reception for mental health volunteers on September 26 at the Park Motor Inn Madison The event marks Community Achievement Day of Wonderful Wisconsin Week represent the volunteers with Mrs Ray Gordon representing professional workers at the Madison event Knowles praised the groups work in a letter of commendation presented at the Green County Association meeting in Monroe items also covered included reports from committees and upcoming officer elections with Assemblyman Joseph Ing Shullsburg slated as speaker for October 21 and related training sessions for teachers and staff plans for Brodhead In-Service Day on Oct 15 and 16 in Madison funded by the chapter

David Hoover an 18 year old UM freshman plans to live in woods a quarter mile from roads all winter. He built four connected tents around a fire pit and may use heaters. He bikes 20 miles daily to campus and rejects closer housing. Hoover says the woods feel like home and cold cannot drive him away.

Monroe City Plans Public Hearing On One Way Streets

The Monroe City Council schedules a public hearing for Tuesday October 21 to consider a resolution designating Tenth Street as one way west from 20th Avenue to Highway 69 and Eleventh Street as one way east from Highway 69 to 20th Avenue. The measure would allow parking on the north side of Tenth Street from 15th Avenue to Highway 69 and on the south side of Eleventh Street from Highway 69 to 13th Avenue. Alderman Robert E. Tschudy notes resident input on a Ninth Street and 16th Avenue light and says further study is needed.
