Prizes Awarded In Safety Contest In Green County

The Green County Safety Council promoted and judged county safety posters with prizes of 2, 1, and 0.5 dollars awarded for first to third place. Winners include James Schlappi Cadiz 4H, Mark Flannery Cadiz, Kristine Meier Clarno Classy Clubbers for 9 to 10 year olds. WHA-TV Winner Bloomington Arts Proposals

The Educational Television Stations Program Service centered at Indiana University announced that WHA of Madison Wisconsin was among 20 winners selected from 59 educational stations for original television programs on the arts.

Blaze destroys barn near Winslow despite firefighting effort

Sparks from chopped hay sparked a late night fire at a Wire farm south of the Warren Winslow Road near Christian Hollow Church. Volunteer firemen from Lena Warren and Winslow battled the blaze with tankers and milk trucks supplying water as neighboring farmers watched. The barn collapsed to smoldering hay and lumber with significant hay losses and all livestock removed prior to engulfment.

Divisions Set for Youth Parade at Cheese Days

Cheese Days parade chairman Ron Barribeau announced divisions for the Kids Parade to be held Saturday September 16 at 10 30 AM. It will start at Lincoln school grounds, follow the 1965 route around the square and back. Categories include Boys Girls Couples in Swiss or cheese themes Groups of three or more and a vehicles division with up to five prizes awarded. Parents should bring children to Lincoln grounds 9 45 to 10 AM for categorization.

Green County Farm Bureau Women Plan Oct 13 Meeting

The Green County Farm Bureau Women discuss a $200 UW Farm Short Course scholarship and new drapes for the meeting room. Miss Bonnie Zumkehr and Mrs. William Figi named co chairs for the county Miss Farm Bureau contest. The Oct 13 meeting will crown the queen and feature a county‑wide gathering at 8 p.m. in the Farm Bureau meeting room.

Green County Farm Bureau again awards a $200 scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin Farm Short Course for the 1967 68 season. Miss Sharon Singstock Joins Miss America Pageant Cast

Miss Sharon Singstock, formerly Miss Wisconsin 1965 and fourth runner up Miss America, is a featured guest in the 1967 Miss America Pageant at Atlantic City. She toured Vietnam on a USO Pepsi tour entertaining troops and is seen on the preliminary competition nights and tomorrow’s color telecast. She appeared in the Boardwalk Parade and earlier returned briefly to Oshkosh before departing for Atlantic City.

Pat Kaster Named Top 10 In Cinderella Contest

Pat Kaster, a former Green County Dairy Queen and former Miss Cheese Days for 1965, was named among the top ten in the Miss Cinderella contest at the World Food Festival in Madison. The UW Madison junior studying radio and television competes with nine other finalists for the crown during a three day event leading to a telecast on Channel 15 tonight. Julius LaRosa will fit the glass slipper and Tommy Bartlett hosts the ceremony.

Monroe Clinic Expands by Purchasing Five Nearby Houses

Mrs. Minnie Figi Sr. sold her home at 1502 9th St. to The Monroe Clinic as part of an expansion plan. Immediate possession was given. The clinic bought five houses in total, two on 9th Street and three on 15th Street, with plans to move or demolish the structures.

Beulah Storm Causes Eight Deaths in Caribbean

Huricane Beulah, blamed for eight deaths, unleashed winds to 85 mph across the eastern Caribbean today. Forecasters warned the storm could approach Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, threatening further damage and danger to residents.
