Jet Plane Crashes Near Madison Field

An F102 B jet from the 325th Fighter Interceptor Squadron crashed on takeoff at Truax Air Field near Madison. Pilot Jean Franzoi, 26, ejected safely and lived in Sun Prairie. The craft was destroyed and the cause and ejection height were not yet known.

UAW Chrysler Reach Three Year Contract Halts Strike

DETROIT Chrysler Corp and the United Auto Workers union reached a three year contract just minutes before a 10 a.m. strike deadline for 74 000 hourly workers. Walter Reuther called the agreement historic and noted a pension plan of up to 400 a month at age 60 for workers with 30 years service.

Search To Continue For Man And Daughter In Wisconsin Flight

About 20 aircraft were assembled for today’s renewed search for Lester H. Flaherty and his 14 year old daughter Sharon, overdue on a flight from Wisconsin Rapids to Milwaukee. Flaherty, 44, president of Flaherty Motors, Inc., left Wisconsin Rapids at 10 15 p m Monday night in a red and cream single engine Stinson. Civil Air Patrol planes and Flaherty’s friends assisted Tuesday until darkness halted operations.

Galli defeats Calvert in GOP primary for Assembly seat

G. Fred Galli of Monroe unseated veteran Walter B. Calvert of Benton in yesterday's primary, winning 2,714 votes to 1,892 in Green and Lafayette Counties. Galli, a freshman assemblyman and executive with the Wisconsin Swiss and Lumber Cheese Producers Association, carried Green County heavily and lost only Brooklyn Village. Calvert had solid Lafayette support and won most Lafayette votes, with Belleville split and New Glarus Democrat Fred Lienhardt set to face Galli in November.
