An explosion and fire at the Badger Ordnance works in Baraboo damaged the small arms powder building. Five people were hospitalized, with one man in critical condition. Firefighters from nearby towns contained the blaze as Sauk County authorities reported the fire under control shortly after noon.

Conservationist Eugene Ploessl Killed in County Crash
Eugene L. Ploessl 26 formerly of Monroe died at the scene when a government owned car collided with a truck near Reedsburg in Bear Creek township Sauk County. James Stevenson 52 Baraboo was injured with a dislocated shoulder. Harold Luther 53 Plain was the truck driver. Ploessl worked with the Soil Conservation Service in Green County and Monroe Jaycees member. He was born October 22 1938 in Glen Haven.

New Manager Named Benkert To Retire Conservation Post

Woman 71 Fatally Hurt in Pear Tree Fall
