A Wisconsin Senate committee urged indefinite postponement of a petition to urge Congress to call a constitutional convention and overturn the U S Supreme Court one man one vote ruling. The move would let a state legislature apportion districts by base rather than equal population.
In San Pedro California a widening earth crack along the coast threatens six oceanfront lots as the 300 to 500 foot fissure grows two to three feet wide in places. City officials report the shoreline slipping toward the sea at about 0.1875 inches per hour amid rising concern for homes along the bluff.
The state moves to cut DDT and DDD use by about 50 percent in California by banning 55 specific applications effective January. Agriculture chief Jerry W. The Municipal Airport is closed with four runways marked Xs. Two thousand feet of runway 020 200 degrees south of the intersection remain available for use at pilots own risk. Pilots must exit onto the hayfield and avoid the prime gravel.
The State Assembly approved eliminating the personal property tax exemption for insurance companies in a 79 to 18 vote. The bill, sent to the Senate, could raise about 1.6 million annually in Milwaukee and millions more across other cities, with Madison potentially receiving 750,000. supporters argue it would put 10 to 15 million in property on Wisconsin tax rolls while opponents warn of competitive disadvantage.
