Wisconsin Assembly Moves to Legalize Colored Oleo
The Wisconsin State Assembly plans a final push to permit sale of colored oleomargarine with 20 percent butterfat. A tax change would remove the 15 cent per pound levy on uncolored oleo and place a 10 cent per pound tax on colored oleo. lawmakers split party lines with 60 to 39 preliminary approvals and debate over a referendum proposal.

Edmund F. Shook 71 died at 2 p m yesterday in St Clare Hospital after a period as a surgical patient. He lived in Monroe at 1508 42 9th Street and had served as librarian at Marquette University before retiring from Commonwealth Edison in Chicago and as an engineer at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee. He was a World War I veteran and member of St Victor s Church the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Surviving are a son James Chicago a daughter two brothers Joseph B and James M New York City. two brothers predeceased him. Services will be at St Nessy Funeral Home and St Victor s Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary tonight at 8 30.

Dr Michael Geldner a neuro surgeon and his wife Dr Barbara Geldner an ophthalmologist have joined the Monroe Clinic staff. They fled communist Poland via Israel to the United States sharing a dream of freedom and medical practice in Monroe. Both earned MDs in 1950 at Warsaw and faced wartime trials before settling in the U.S.

Two New Members Join Monroe Civil Defense Auxiliary
Two new members joined the Monroe Civil Defense Auxiliary Police at the regular meeting last night in the old city hall. William Niederberger and Robert J. von Arx were welcomed. Sgt. Ervin L. Goecks said the unit will assist in traffic control at the costume parade and home basketball games. The addition brings the 43-man strength to the unit.
