Two Hurt In Highway 11 81 Mishap Near Juda
Two people were hurt when their car went out of control and rolled over about a mile west of Juda on Highway 11 81. Michael J. Roy, 19, of Janesville, suffered a minor nose injury and Nick C. Wilson of Beloit had a cut on the top of his right hand. Both were not treated. The loss was deemed total. Roy was driving. A separate wreck near Browntown on a township road damaged two cars and a cow was involved in the incident. No injuries were listed. Further collisions occurred near Monroe and Browntown with no injuries reported.

Stackpole Receives University Evjue Scholarship
Brian Stackpole, a Platteville State University sophomore engineering student, earned a Wil lm T. Evjue scholarship at the fall banquet of the University Pioneer Patrons. He posted a 3.86 GPA, the highest among four recipients, presented by Dr. Nick Johanson. Attendees included his parents, Rod Kittelsen, Assemblyman G. Fred Galli, and their spouses. Cartoonist Harold M. Talburt, 71, longtime Scripps-Howard editorial cartoonist, died of cancer after retirement in 1963.

Hartwig Extinguishes Corn Field Fire Alone
Hartwig on his farm five miles southwest of town safely smothered a corn field fire trailing a picker. He removed his jacket to beat out the flames as dry fodder fed the blaze in gusty wind. Fire took about half a day to control.

Eleven Tons Collected On Good Turn Day by Scouts
Scouts of Valley District and U.S. Grant Council and 150 volunteers gathered nearly 11 tons of clothing housewares and small appliances on Good Turn Day. Items go to Goodwill Industries workshops for rehabilitation of physically handicapped residents. About 900 Cubs Scouts and Explorers and 150 volunteers participated.

Fire Gutts Bjork’s Restaurant in Brodhead
A fire of undetermined origin gutted Bjork’s Restaurant at 1107 First Center Ave in Brodhead causing total interior destruction. No injuries were reported and insurance covered the building. George Bjork, operator since 1934, said flames appeared as staff were closing. Firefighters arrived at 10:15 p.m. and battled a blaze described as intense. The building, built in 1920 for railroad workers, was known locally as the Dog House.

Squirrel Hunter Wounded in Open Season Incident
Jerry E. Foster of New Glarus was wounded by a ricochet pellet during the opening weekend of pheasant season. Foster, 25, in fair condition at St. Clare Hospital, was hit while standing beside a tree as Alfred Mueller, 29, also of New Glarus, fired at an animal seen on the trunk.
