Cost of living slows during September in Nixon price freeze

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a sharp slowdown in September with grocery prices down one percent and auto prices easing, while overall living costs rose 0.0 to 0.5 percent. Average weekly earnings fell 27 cents to 128.76, with purchasing power still up about 3 percent year over year after inflation.

Nixon Nominates Powell and Rehnquist to Supreme Court

Economy slows as GNP grows 3 percent in third quarter

The Commerce Department reports the nations economy expanded at a 3 percent annual rate in the July to September quarter. GNP rose by 16 billion dollars, with only half of the growth in real terms. Inflation cooled to 3.3 percent, the year’s low.

AFS Weekend Slated in Monroe With 13 Foreign Students

An AFS Weekend in Monroe is planned for November 19 to 21 featuring 13 foreign students including Yoichi Hosoya of Fukiage Japan at Monroe High School. Hosts include the Schild and Wegmueller families with co chairs Shelley Kubly and Mary Swiggum coordinating housing tours transportation and teas.

Second in series Adult Activity Center opens for Green County

The Day Care Services Board started the Adult Activity Center in Monroe for mentally handicapped adults 20 and over. Sessions run Monday Wednesday Friday 1 4 p m for ten months. Teacher-director Mrs. Jerry Albrecht coordinates with volunteers. The program seeks 15 weekly hours and state reimbursement, with local funding, to expand and hire an assistant director.
