The Monroe School Board voted to keep baccalaureate as a voluntary part of Senior Week despite recent Supreme Court rulings on school religion. Supt. D. J. Huenink noted near 100 percent attendance and that students choose speakers with pastors participating. The board also approved raises for three non teaching staff and approved bus driver wage adjustments with a plan to study crossing guards and indoor swimming feasibility. a landscaping payment and cost statistics were reported.

Students Warned After Fort Atkinson Football Incident
The Monroe Board of Education issued a strong warning to students about severe disciplinary action for future outbreaks of fighting rowdiness or property damage. Eleven high school youths implicated in the incident after the Monroe Fort Atkinson game at T R Holyoke Field met with board members and at least one parent each during a recess. Four older youths, not in school, were reported to be involved and were to appear in County Court.

Area Residents Hurt in Mishap
Two injuries reported from separate crashes near Winslow and Monroe. Raymond Montgomery, 49, Browntown businessman, and Miss Gwendolyn Barney, 40, of Monroe, in good condition at St. Clare hospital after fractures and a concussion. Elton Seffrood, 18, and Hoyt Barney, 74, also involved with Montgomeries vehicle and Barney car respectively. Mrs. Evelyn Krattiger, 42, of Monroe, was driver in the third party collision with minor injuries and a brake-related mishap near New Glarus Woods Park. Another Car Stolen but Recovered Later in Monroe
For the second straight night a car was stolen and recovered in Monroe. At 8:37 p.m. Sherman G Hodgeson reported his 1964 Ford was taken from his Lake Drive driveway. Police recovered the vehicle in the 1100 block of 23rd Avenue at 1:13 a.m. this morning.
