The Monroe City Council approved an 8 to 0 vote to purchase the Wells building on 11th Street for 35000 dollars. Mayor Schiller did not comment on a potential veto, and the plan allocates 17500 dollars from the parking meter reserve and 17500 from the building reserve for recreation facilities, parking, and city offices.

An Air Force C47 crashed on a 970 foot mountain three miles south of Harrisburg, exploding and burning after plowing through trees. Six personnel aboard were killed when the twin engine aircraft struck the slope and flipped over on impact.

Green County 4H and Monroe FFA members earned 31 ribbons at the Southern Wisconsin Jr Livestock Expo held Monday through today at Dane County Fair Grounds Madison.
