Albany Couple Injured in Two-Car Crash
Mr and Mrs LaVerne Gadow of Albany were injured in a two car collision at the Rock County Highway B and Knuteson road intersection yesterday morning. Gadow 28 suffered cerebral concussion possible skull fracture shoulder blade fracture a broken left leg and nasal fractures. Mrs Gadow 25 had cerebral concussion and multiple cuts and bruises. Both were treated at St Clare hospital with Gadow listed in fair condition and Mrs Gadow in good condition. Lawrence Bakke 30 Beloit was uninjured. Authorities say Gadow was eastbound on B stopped then pulled across. Bakke was southbound.

Loren L. Hare Stricken at 76
Loren L. Hare, 76, retired farmer and prominent greyhound dog breeder, died at 1:40 p.m. at St. Clare Hospital after entering as a medical patient Oct. 13. Born Oct. 26, 1881, in Washington Township, he lived in Monroe and operated Hare Trucking Co. He bred dogs nationwide and co-founded a dairy farm in Monroe earlier in life. Surviving are his wife Maude Morris Hare, four daughters, two sons, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Services set for Wednesday at Shriner-Neushwander funeral home with IOOF graveside rites.

The nine days of funeral services for Pope Pius XII ended with a two hour Requiem Mass at St Peter's Basilica attended by diplomats and representatives of 50 nations. Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski arrived to bring to 47 the number of princes of the church assembled in Rome for the secret conclave to elect a new pope, to convene next Saturday. Francis Cardinal Spellman assisted Eugene Cardinal Tisserant in the Mass for the late pope.

Fire at City Dump Sparks Night Alarm
An explosion on the east side of the city dump at 11 28 p m Saturday brought fire trucks to the scene. Attendant Walter Waser warned the blaze could reach the grass between his living quarters and the dump, and he reported the alarm. Firemen soaked the area to prevent spread.

State Budget Director E. C. Giessel announced a FY ending June 30 surplus of 19.7 million, about five million more than estimated. Revenue from various taxes plus 1957 58 balances brought in 378.824 million, while expenditures and reserves totaled 359 million, leaving a 19 million balance.

Police probe the motive after off duty patrolman James McDermott opened fire in the Pic a Rib restaurant on Broadway near 53rd street killing four men and wounding himself.
