Pheasant Hunt Opens with Fatalities and Wounds Across Counties

A Crawford County man, Juan Lindsay of Eastman, age 50, was found dead after a shotgun discharge while climbing a farm fence. Karl Kline of Superior, ?, and Oshkosh teen Robert Schofield, 15, were wounded during the opening weekend. Kline was hospitalized in good condition. Schofield remains in critical condition after a blast from companions.

Fish Begins Busy Week in National GOP Effort

Wisconsin GOP chairman Ody J. Fish leads a party delegation in Washington to confer with President Nixon and set up campaign workshops. He will help form a national reapportionment review committee, review campaign methods, and promote fund raising for GOP candidates. Senators Proxmire and Nelson urge large military cuts to fund domestic needs and pollution control.

Wisconsin leaders urged Knowles to back Tarr tax reform

Kenosha Wisconsin Alliance of Cities president urged Gov Warren Knowles to personally lead an eleventh hour campaign against Republican plans to sink the Tarr task force shared tax program. He said the bill would be killed without strong leadership and passage of the reform measure. Legislators return to the Capitol as Republicans oppose the Tarr plan. In Vietnam fighting surged with 197 enemy dead and heavy clashes across Mekong Delta and Da Nang area. seven Americans and six South Vietnamese killed, 16 Americans and 21 South Vietnamese wounded.

Premier Chung Il kwon resigns to clear way for Park

Premier Chung Il kwon and two other government officials quit to clear the way for President Chung Hee Park to reshape the cabinet after Park won a constitutional referendum by a wide margin. The vote favored Park about two to one for a potential third term in 1971.

Driver Killed In Area Crash In Green County

Michael E. Buchanan 22 of Janesville died in a rainy early morning crash on Highway 1181 east of Monroe. Coroner ruled accidental death from chest injuries. funeral planned at Newcomer Brodhead Chapel with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Surviving: widow Rosemary Cavallo and a son, parents, and several half siblings.
