Derailment Halts Line Near Belleville Exeton Township
A 150 ton diesel engine and five cars derailed three miles south of Belleville near a tunnel in Exeter Township. No injuries reported. The crash followed a mud-filled crossing swollen by Friday rain. Engineer was George Smith Jr. of Freeport. The line, a single freight route from Freeport to Madison, remains blocked while cars are replaced and track repaired. A heavy crane will lift the engine as repairs continue and traffic on nearby roads is halted.
