Retirement announced for Wisconsin school superintendent
MADISON AP Retirement of Ray E. Long, superintendent of the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped in Janesville, announced Monday. William C. Kahl said Long would resign August 1, 1970, after holding the post since February 1942. He will then serve as consultant to the school and the Division of Handicapped Children in the state superintendent's office.
Groppi seeks bond release as court date set
Milwaukee Reverend James E Groppi faces a Wisconsin Supreme Court hearing after attorneys sought an order to free him on bond. Chief Justice Hallows ordered a hearing this afternoon on the bid. Separately, two Milwaukee men died in separate state crashes, raising Wisconsin’s 1969 highway fatalities to 887. Norman Bennett, 70, died north of Ripon in Fond du Lac County after a collision. Ewald Ahlstrom, 79, died near Westfield when his wife Violet lost control of their car, going through the windshield.
