4 H Achievement Medals Awarded To Monroe Group

Monroe area 4 H members were honored at Turner hall for a county recognition night with Ray Bowen and Mary Ann Frautschy named area achievement boy and girl. Frautschy also earned county home economics and crafts awards as she collected prizes and medals.

Achievement Girl Builds 4-H Path From Farm to Leadership

Mary Ann Frautschy 17, a Monroe high senior and Clarno Club member, has spent seven years in 4-H focusing on home furnishings dairy foods and more. She credits family support and her Holstein cattle ventures for funding home remodeling and projects while planning to become a home economist.

Burglars Hit Argyle Shullsburg And Wiota Stores

Burglars broke into three Argyle businesses and two filling stations at Shullsburg and Wiota during the night, taking only 3 dollars from the Hanson D X store in Argyle. Other targets included the Argyle Lumber Co and Pure Oil, with Clover Farm at Wiota and Shullsburg stations left untouched. Police believe the break ins occurred about 2 am.

A six engine B-47 bomber crashed into a hill near March Air Force Base in Riverside California killing four crewmen. The aircraft reportedly struck at nearly 500 miles per hour during an instrument training flight shortly after takeoff.

Legion Ends Rally Ends Union Stance at National Convention

At the American Legion national convention in Miami veterans endorsed United Nations in principle and US membership while voting to drop UNESCO. They rejected a 100 dollar per month pension plan for WWI vets at 60, and called for greater benefits for veterans and dependents. New national commander J. Legislators Plan Return After Brief Madison Session

The Assembly and Senate will reconvene next week after an abbreviated session. They asked the attorney general to clarify if sleeping at the wheel constitutes reckless driving and moved to investigate alleged non payment of the Wisconsin margarine tax on interstate purchases. A westward moving autumn storm tracked north along the East Coast near the Hazel route, delivering gale gusts up to 60 mph in Atlantic City and heavy rain that flooded roads from Mount Vernon to Elmira.
