Highway 69 relocation plan moves to property appraisals
County highway committee began appraising 21 or 22 parcels for the proposed relocation of Highway 69 to bypass New Glarus. County highway superintendent N C Jensen says right of way purchases will follow after state approval, with no construction this year beyond programming and letting a contract. The plan shifts Highway 69 from just north of New Glarus Woods Roadside Park east to bypass the village and enter Dane County near the junction, with committee members Edward Bidlingmaier, Ray Grady, Will Spring and a Monticello surveyor assisting.

A county youth council was formed at the Monroe Youth Council meeting. Representatives from Albany Monroe Monticello and New Glarus attended and adopted a constitution with John Hammer as temporary chairman and Donna Gustafson as temporary secretary. Archie S. Myers, 69, of 1302 17th avenue died at 2 40 p m today in St Clare hospital after major surgery Saturday. He was born April 27 1886 in Leiters Indiana and lived in Monroe since 1924. A former telegraph operator and dairy business owner, he helped run Monroe Dairy Co. with family. his survivors include wife Helen, daughter Millicent, two sons Russell and Archie Jr., six grandchildren, and a missing Blythe A. He had been active in World War II relief work and local politics. Services are pending.
