Informers Central to Rights Slaying Case in Mississippi

Justice Department lawyers may call FBI paid informants in the 1964 Philadelphia Mississippi civil rights workers slayings case. The informants are key to proving a White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan conspiracy, involving 18 defendants led by Imperial Wizard Holloway Bowers and several local officials. Testimony aims to show the charting of the killings and the plan to restrain the workers, with James E. Jordan among expected witnesses. The trial, before U.S. District Judge Harold Cox, is anticipated to end by October 18.
