Parking Ramp Takes Spotlight At Council Meet
The Monroe City Council approved official parking ramp regulations and a building purchase for ramp access. They authorized 200 meters at 9,900 total cost, plus a four hour meter at the Monroe Clinic approach, and set rates at 5 cents per hour for covered areas. A public hearing is scheduled Oct 18 at 7 30 p.m. The council also advanced plans to relocate Highway 69 with an estimated bypass cost of 436 200, state funding at 85 percent and a city share of 96 200, with storm sewer installation included. Mayor Walter R Ekum stated the ramp could be operational by early December.

Clarence S. Homb of South Wayne Monroe businessman and former merchant died at 5 47 p m yesterday in St Clare Heritage at his home after hospital stay since 4 30 a m. He had worked Monday and for 10 years in Wainwright Pharmacy with his wife. Surviving are his widow a son Wesley in St Petersburg Fla a brother Harry Homb South Wayne and three sisters Mrs George Smith Mrs Joseph Olson and Mrs Homer Clark with three grandchildren. He was born January 3 1899 in Wiota Township and married Christina Webinger October 5 1926 in Gratiot. He was a member of St Johns Catholic Church South Wayne.

Blaze at Brodhead Destroys Tractors and Cars
A morning fire in Brodhead destroyed dozens of farm machines including six diesel tractors valued near six thousand dollars each, plus a livestock barn and several cars at the Olin and Ayres used car lot. The blaze disrupted long distance lines and local calls as 300 underground telephone wires were severed, cutting service in eastern Brodhead. Fire Chief Don Edwards noted concerns for nearby buildings. emergency crews from Janesville aided with a mobile unit.

Area Men Win In Corn Picking Competition Here
Two local men won top honors as Green County hosted the 1966 Wisconsin State Corn Picking Contest at Idle Hour Farm in Monroe. Wallace Feldt Monticello won the combine division with 96.241 points, John Schwartzlow Albany took the picker shelter title scoring 87.99, and Warren Reppen Edgerton led the two-row picker with 93.487. Ambrose Wenger and Ken Dall Digman finished second and third in two-row pickers. The event drew up to 10,000 spectators, with wind and dust as sunshine returned after rain fears, and winners may advance to the National Corn Picking Contest in Cedar Rapids on Oct 13-14.

Injured Man Seriously In Corn Chopper Accident
Herbert Soddy aged 56 of Browntown was seriously injured when his right foot and ankle were caught in a corn chopper pulley at the Soddy farm. He suffered partial amputation and was found by his brother Ernest. He was taken to hospital and his condition was listed as serious.
