UW Enrollment Drops to 15 766 for 1950 51
The University of Wisconsin reports final enrollment for 1950 51 at 15 766, down 1 924 from last year. Veteran students fall from 7 938 to 5 455. the senior class totals 3 255, with 3 011 juniors, 2 670 sophomores, and 2 714 freshmen. Men total 11 540 while women number 4 226.

Runaway Balloon From Minnesota Drifts Over Wisconsin
A large 18 foot advertising blimp and a separate plastic scientific balloon were found near Racine and southwest of Sheboygan after both reportedly broke free. The research balloon launched by General Mills from Minneapolis studied cosmic rays at 107 600 feet and carried 241 pounds of delicate instruments. The blimp and balloons prompted searches by the CAA, Wisconsin Air National Guard, and Midwest Airlines due to flight hazards.

Two County Men Enlist in Air Force at Milwaukee

Cpl. Thomas G. Gallay aged 20 from Milwaukee was wounded twice in Korea. He was struck by machine gun bullets August 5 during a patrol, healed and returned to duty. On September 17 he reported his unit fell into a trap and he sustained injuries to both legs.

Starlings Blasted From Lincoln Trees
Monroe officials say a starlings drive near Lincoln Park killed 2000 to 3000 birds after a shotgun clash led by local sportsmen including the Green County Rod and Gun Club. Police and safety officials directed a cleanup as about 700 birds were found under a single tree. A follow up shoot is planned tomorrow at 5 30 under police supervision.
