Priceless Vatican Manuscripts Stolen From Apostolic Library

Thieves climbed the Vatican gardens wall and broke in to steal Petrarch’s Il Canzoniere and a Torquato Tasso manuscript from the Apostolic Library. Vatican and Rome police said the loss might be immeasurable, with Interpol alerted and Pope Paul VI informed. The theft marks a rare major art crime in the Vatican.

Col Joseph M. Stehling of Beaver Dam becomes assistant commander of the 32nd Red Arrow Division Wisconsin National Guard succeeding Brig. Gen. Schweinler. Heavy Snows and Fog Continue in Rome

For the third straight day unseasonal temperatures bring heavy snows and dense fog across Italy. Fresh snow extends from the Alpine North to the lower Apennines with drifts over two yards in remote northern areas. Convict Gruender Fled Waupun Prison In Thanksgiving Escape

Lawmen traced the escapee Thomas Ralph Gruender, who used a vent and drain to exit Waupun Prison. He was last seen in western Waukesha County after fleeing with civilian clothes, with a car found at Delafield and his prison clothing recovered at an Oconomowoc store.

Cheesemakers Ball and Wrestling Event Set for Dec 4

The annual Cheesemakers Ball and wrestling matches will be held Saturday December 4 at Turner Hall Monroe. Wrestlers should be ready by 2 p.m. Roy Kundert president of the Foreign Type Cheesemakers Assoc sponsors the event. Sullivan Youth Wins With Lamb At Chicago Event

Sullivan Richard of Monroe wins reserve champion in junior quality lambs at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago. The event features 66th annual competition with 199 steers judged live, plus major wins by Robert Marr and Gilbert Graber in beef and Angus divisions. The exposition runs nine days at the International Amphitheatre with 400000 expected attendees and ends with the 1965 grand champion steer to be named Monday.

Plane lands safely after village assists in hayfield

Eight Children Left Orphaned After Thanksgiving Crash

Eight children were left orphaned as a family of Burlington, Wisconsin, perished in a head on collision near Kenosha during a Thanksgiving weekend crash. The Fuller family of three generations spanned the crash, with six adults injured and a large road toll rising to 917 for the year.
