Viennese Pastry Chef Brings Dobosh Torte to Monroe
Alfred Weisinger, 23, from Austria, is creating the classic Dobosh Torte at a Monroe bakery behind the Swiss Colony uptown store on 17th Avenue. Hired by Swiss Colony to fulfill thousands of Christmas orders, he works under Karl Schwager of Chicago, who oversees the gourmet and pastry ventures of the firm. Schwager, an Austria native, also assists as interpreter while recovering from a broken leg. The torte, Bake in eight butter layers with seven chocolate layers, is billed as The Torte of Old Vienna and was previously made in Chicago.

Albany area deputies probe rural mailbox vandalism
Deputy sheriffs investigated a series of rural mailbox vandalism in the Albany area. Several boxes were knocked down and smashed in the same vicinity. Earlier this fall a mailbox was blasted with a shotgun and a large caliber bullet was fired through the Union Church window.
